Disclaimer: I’m not sitting around doing absolutely nothing.
A few weeks ago I was able to get a part-time legal job. I found the position through my school’s job website and while they were looking for a 2L or 3L I applied and got the job. I figure that something is better than nothing at the moment. My new employer understands that I am still looking for a full-time job and that I will ditch him on short notice if a lucky break shows itself.
I have to say that it is working out well. I’m doing some legal research, writing some, and generally not allowing my mind to rot. Although, my new boss asked me what the elements of negligence were and my mind went completely blank – I froze. Can you imagine? All that studying for the bar and I couldn’t remember the stupid elements. Dumb.
Anyway, my point is this: doing something that will add to your experience is not a waste of time just because it doesn’ t include health benefits. There is no reason that you can’t take a part-time job just because you really need a full-time one.
