It’s all so exciting: the formality of a swearing-in ceremony, reciting an oath to uphold justice, and congratulations from family and friends. But for those of us without a job – it mostly just leaves me wondering, “Now what?” Because, for me, it quickly hit me that not only am I unemployed but now am actually able to “practice law” but have no clue what I can and can’t do.
And on top of this general feeling of “holy hell I just spent three years in law school and now have no idea how to ‘practice’ law” we have family asking us legal questions. Now, this isn’t a forum to complain, but I do find it sadly funny that I feel completely unprepared to do anything legal on my own.
On a more upbeat (and more useful) note. In searching Google with such terms as “new attorney” to find resources for our current situation, I ran across the Lexis Hub for New Attorneys. Maybe some of you already found this but I thought it actually had some good resources in there – like a free case law search (only the last 10 years) and some decent blog posts. I don’t want to be a Lexis pusher – but I thought it was helpful.
